More than just a convention, Conquest is a party by, and for, Sci-Fi fans.
Conquest 2010 will feature Star Trek consultant Richard Arnold, together with his slide shows and auction of hard-to-get Sci-Fi memorabilia.
Those of you familiar with Richard's previous presentations, and his auctions of rare collectibles and autographs, will know that you don't want to miss him at Conquest this year.
Richard attended his first Star Trek convention in 1969, and although his heavy workload has now seen him attend over 1000 conventions world wide, he still takes time out to visit us in Queensland each year.
This year will be Richard's 22nd visit to Conquest, making him the most popular guest in Conquest's 29 year history.
Marianne de Pierres is another well known guest who is much loved by Conquest fans.
She is the author of the multi-award nominated Parrish Plessis and Sentients of Orion series. Marianne also writes humorous crime novels under the pseudonym Marianne Delacourt.
At Conquest 2010, Marianne will be delivering a presentation Q&A session, and will also be participating in a professional writers' panel with other guests including Rowena Cory Daniells, Trent Jamieson, Kylie Chan and A. C. Warrilow, where they will be discussing "The World of the Book - How writers get lost in their worlds!"
2010 marks author Rowena Cory Daniell's first appearance at Conquest.
Rowena is passionate about writing, and her speculative fiction stories have appeared in magazines and anthologies including both Dreaming DownUnder, which won World Best Fantasy, and Dreaming Again.
As well as listening to Rowena's presentation Q&A, you can participate in her 2 hour writers' pitching workshop, and even enjoy some coffee and biscuits with her during her special Kaffeeklatsch. This unique event will allow you to pick Rowena's brain on all matters related to writing and being published.
Trent Jamieson is a writer who believes that what an author sees in a book is rarely what a reader sees, and that’s what makes writing and reading so fascinating – and fraught with peril.
He is another exciting, new, first time guest for Conquest, and you will be able to catch him during his presentation Q&A, and also at the special writers' panel event with other guests.
Trent's new novel, Death Most Definite, was officially released on August 2nd and was launched by Marianne de Pierres at a gala event on 13th of August.
Trent and his wife Diana are also planning to join us for the Saturday night dinner event.
A. C. Warrilow is another popular identity of Conquest, and many will have met Andrew at past Conquest events. He has attended as both a fan and a much respected guest.
Andrew will be speaking on a number of subjects over the weekend, including the exciting announcement of his three stage get-published event, The Invisus Series Relaunch - Stage One - The New Beginning.
He will also be launching The Ministry of Writers webpage, a worldwide peer to peer network for members to read, write, rate and review one another.
Come join the walkthrough and features of the site at 9.15am, Sunday, and be there for the official launch at 10am.
Kylie Chan is the best-selling author of the Dark Heavens and Journey to Wudang trilogies, in which she writes about the world of Chinese Gods, martial arts, and magic.
She married a Hong Kong national in a traditional Chinese wedding ceremony and lived in Hong Kong for many years, an experience which opened her eyes to a whole different view of the world.
Kylie will be sharing her writing and life experiences with us at Conquest through a presentation Q&A, and will be taking part in the writers' panel event.
She will also be running a very special workshop which any aspiring writer needs to attend - Writing as a Business.
When not on stage, you should be able to find Kylie in the dealers' room where, along with our other guests, she will be signing copies of her books. Kylie will also be attending the Saturday night dinner.
T. Danger Julius attended her first Conquest in 1993 when she was just 7 years old, so clearly Sci-Fi in general, and Conquest in particular, played no small role in making her the scientist she is today.
Currently performing research with the Belle Experiment at the KEKB particle accelerator in Tsukuba, Japan, in conjunction with The University of Melbourne, T'Mir will be speaking on a number of subjects including her specialist area of antimatter, a subject of interest to all Star Trek fans.
If you're interested in how the Sci-Fi science of antimatter and particle physics compares with our current level of understanding, you'll definitely enjoy T'Mir's presentation.
For the first time in many years, Peter Budd will be unable to attend Conquest due to other commitments. Peter and Missy will be attending Comicon for the launch of a very special project.
As an extra event during Conquest 2010, we'll be running a live video cross to them at Comicon, New York.
They should have some big Sci-Fi related news for the Australian fans, which you won't want to miss.
Other weekend events will include...
- Fan Auction
- Panels
- Discussions
- Competitions
- On-the-Spot Quizzes and Prizes
- Separate Dealers' Room
- Saturday Night Dinner Event
